He’s cool as hell, punk, AND BLACK? That’s such a win for black fans, especially black fans who are alternative like me. This has been said a lot, but representation really does matter. Every time I saw him on screen, he filled me with unbelievable amounts of joy. He’s also one of the best characters in the movie! I love how he was styled. I have to give props to the animators because he is A LOT!

I LOVED how excited people were when they approached me! It makes me so happy that a lot of people love Hobie as much as I do. Awesome Con had such a nice crowd in general. The staff, the vendors, the attendees…They were all very sweet. I also made a few friends!

This cosplay was so rushed…I didn’t realize how close it was to con, so I had to finish it in a week. Most of it is DIY. I had the most fun working on the pants. I loved making the patches! The most time consuming part was definitely the jacket. When I first got it, there wasn’t much on it. I had to remove the sleeves, paint the back, then add the studs, spikes, buttons, and a few safety pins. This was such a fun process! The whole time working on it, I was thinking to myself: “Why don’t I do this more often?”

I’ve been cosplaying for about 8 years. When I was a kid, I used to watch cosplay mvs, con vlogs, panels, etc. I’ve always been fascinated with cosplay. My very first con was Anime Weekend Atlanta 2015, and I’ve loved cons ever since! I wasn’t that active of a cosplayer until quarantine, when everyone had time to work on their hobbies. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

Do what you want! You don’t have to always be 100% canon, and that’s what I love about cosplay. It’s fun when you don’t worry too much about being perfect. Try adding your own twists to it! As an example, I like to give my cosplays curly hair when most of the characters I cosplay as have straight hair. Why? Because it’s cool! I started making curly/afro wigs in 2020. I LOVE my natural hair and I LOVE incorporating that into my cosplays. I would have never thought to do so if it weren’t for my two big inspirations @ultimastar and @kieraplease.
